ESPCF has been invited to visit the MRI suite at Eastbourne District General Hospital (DGH) on Wednesday 1st March, 10.30am to 12 midday, and we’d love to hear from any parent carers in East Sussex who would like to join us.
The purpose of the visit is to:
- look at the existing facilities
- consider the environment as a whole and how it feels for families with children and young people with special educational needs & disabilities (SEND)
- suggest ideas to improve the overall experience for SEND families
- share any feedback about previous experiences* of children and young people with SEND undergoing an MRI scan
*Your child or young person does not need to have had an MRI scan, or be waiting for a scan, for you to come along. We are interested in all feedback about the environment of the MRI suite and ideas for any potential adjustments and considerations which could be made.
Please email [email protected] or call 0300 770 1367 if you are interested in coming along. Please also let us know if you have any mobility or accessibility needs.

Safety
The MRI suite will be closed for our visit and each person coming along will be asked to complete an MRI safety questionnaire before they attend.
On the day
This will be a relaxed visit with opportunities to chat with the imaging staff at the hospital, ask questions, and share ideas and feedback.
Other suites will be open when we visit, and as a result we’ve been advised by the hospital that it would not be appropriate for children to come along with parent carers.
What we hope to achieve
The aim of the visit is to provide feedback which will help improve the experience of MRI appointments for SEND families. We also hope that some of the general feedback about what can help SEND families when attending clinical appointments could be shared between different hospital teams – it may even encourage other departments to offer similar visits for parent carers.
This opportunity has come about as part of our community engagement work. Please do get in touch if you have any ideas about other places we could be visiting to raise awareness of the views and experiences of SEND families.
